Completed projects in the Netherlands |

The housing block was completed in May 1994. The building comprises four floors, with 35 three-room housing units of various types in the social housing sector. The project was commissioned by Stichting Volkshuisvesting Arnhem. |
|
The plan by the runners-up for the site comprises 85 flats in five housing blocks on the Buiksloterweg and the project was completed in 1994. The Protestantse Woningbouwvereniging commissioned the project. |

Having been involved in the urban plan for Zaaneiland, the alternative site in Zaanstad, the Europan architects designed a sub-plan incorporating 123 single-family homes and 33 flats. The client was VOF Peterswerf (Bouwfonds Woningbouw and Volker Stevin Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij). The project was completed in 1997. |

On an alternative site on the Gerard Noodtstraat the architects designed a housing block with 57 housing units, with business premises on the ground floor. The roof-top parking is exceptional, accessed by a car lift. The client for the plan was Woningvereniging Kolping (formerly Talis Woondiensten). The project has been occupied since 1997. |

For the original Europan site on the Zaanoevers the winners devised a master plan, whereupon they designed 102 housing units in four buildings with diverse housing types. The plan, commissioned by Delta roA, was completed in 1999. Concko and Gautier also designed the public space. |

The plan for the alternative site on the Gassedonklaan, was completed in 2000. Two blocks comprising 59 rented housing units have been built, 14 of which are suitable for the physically handicapped. The title of the project 3UP2DOWN refers to the manner of accessing the housing, a combination of flats accessed from a common entrance hall and galleries, and the way in which the housing units, with floor plans alternating from one and one-and-a-half bays, are stacked. |

For the original site, commissioned by Het Oosten Woningcorporatie on the basis of the competition design, a plan was developed comprising 112 housing units, 1200 m2 of business space, 111 parking spaces and 2000 m2 of public space. The foundation ceremony was held in December 2000 and the project reached completion in 2002. Remarkably, the completed plan is very similar to the competition design. |

After an urban plan had been worked out in workshops with the municipality and other architects for the Cibogaterrein - which formed part of the competition site - the architects designed a sub-plan with 149 housing units (social housing and un-subsidised sector) and 300 parking spaces. The plan also incorporated 1500 m2 of commercial premises and 3000 m2 of retail space. The project was completed in 2002. |

In collaboration with the Dutch firm of Thijs Asselbergs, on the instructions of the Woonmaatschappij the competition design was further developed into a realisable plan. Having cleared up the polluted soil, in February 2003 a start was made on the building of 46 dwellings in the private sector, 43 apartments in the rented sector for elderly over 55 years and 106 parking spaces. The project was completed in 2005. |

In 2003 Europan had been in existence for fifteen years. Although Europan is subject to practically constant evaluation in an international and national context, a more structured and independent study of the results has never in fact taken place. |

In December 2004 the publication 'Implementations - Europan 1 to 6 negotiated projects' came out. In this book Europan Europe published a selection of well over sixty projects in twelve countries that are the result of the first six competition rounds. The book gives an interesting view of the various possible developments of a winning project after the competition. The projects are categorised by theme and are preceded by an essay about the theme, written by architects, researchers and critics. Besides that interviews that were held with a number of urban designers, politicians and developers involved with Europan in the past are published in the book. |
