Europan 10 in Emmen |
|
An exhibition about Europan 10 opened on Thursday 29 April on a warm, summery afternoon in Emmen. Alderman Ton Sleeking set the ball rolling with a short speech in which he examined the importance of the municipality's participation in Europan 10. He particularly appreciated the international component of the competition. The alderman opened the exhibition by placing the last block of houses in the model that the winning architects, Timur Shabaev and Marco Galasso, had made of their plan. The new director of development at Lefier, Jan Postema, also expressed his appreciation of Europan and the corporation's intention of implementing the winning plan on part of the site that they own. Then about eighty of those present split up into groups for a walk to view the "pearls of Emmen": projects of which the town is very proud. Upon their return to the Bruggebouw municipal offices, refreshments awaited them. |

The forum debate that followed was chaired by Tjerk Ruimschotel. He questioned Helena Casanova (winner, Europan 6 and 7), Henk Klinkhamer (Emmen architect), Jaap ten Hoor (Emmen estate agent), Jan Postema and Emmie Vos (Europan) about the importance of architecture for the development of the urban environment. One of the most important topics discussed - contributed by Henk Klinkhamer - was public space as the point of departure when designing the urban environment. In this context Europan appealed for collaboration between the various disciplines. Architects, urban designers and landscape architects can jointly consider the wider picture and make an important contribution to the responsible and lasting development of the urban environment. |
