Evolving Lifestyles and Housing |
|
Changes in household, lifestyle, building technology, telecommunications and architectural attitudes were part of the theme of the first Europan competition. Architects were challenged to leave the familiar paths, transcend borders or, even better, to reposition them, and give a conceptual and architectural response to what was happening in society. The consequences of a far-reaching individualisation, the introduction of telecommunications and computers into all aspects of the household or a town planning concept in which the issue of new social differences is taken up were up-to-date themes. Searched was for new images of housing. Jury - Theo Bosch, Jo Coenen, Bob Geerling, Rob Goldsteen, Francine Houben, Arnold Reijndorp, Janny Rodermond, Wiek Röling, Alvaro Siza, Koen van Velsen. |

Amsterdam-Noord Caritasterrein - On the Caritas site, where the educational facilities and a church for the adjacent garden village are situated, the strip along the Noordhollandsch Kanaal will be empty after the demolishing of some schools. On this strip, along which runs a rustic footpath with mature elms and a wide grassy dike, a housing programme should be realised. Arnhem Stadsblokken - Along the river banks of the Rhine, that runs through Arnhem, there is a piece of waste land, the Stadsblokken, which has been allowed to run wild. The disused peninsula is the link which will have to connect both town districts on either side of the river with a huge housing programme. Den Haag Ammunitiehaven - The site borders the route which connects the busy business centre with the adjacent residential district. This prominent location in the city centre of The Hague is considered eminently suitable for apartments combined with social, cultural and commercial activities on the ground floor. |
